Cadillac is expanding its model lineup. The company will begin selling a new compact luxury sedan in 2012. The line is codenamed ATS.
North America President Mark Reuss unveiled a sketch of the model today.
“The car we codenamed ATS is being developed to be a driver's car on an all-new Cadillac-specific RWD-AWD architecture,” Reuss said. “We have extensively and exhaustively studied the competitive segment, and we have benchmarked the best. And when this car comes out, that will be readily apparent.”
Production of the new Cadillac will begin next summer at the Lansing Grand River plant in Michigan. That is the same plant that builds the Cadillac CTS sedan, coupe and wagon.
General Motors will invest $190 million in the plant and hire 600 people to build the new Cadillac.
