WEST PALM BEACH, FL – A jury on Friday returned guilty verdicts in the case against Kerstin Fenn and her husband, Toby.

They were on trial in connection with the death of her mother.

The jury found them guilty of culpable negligence and guilty of abuse of an elderly person or disabled adult.

Elderly and suffering from dementia, Elly Lorey depended on her family for care.

The prosecution argued the couple wanted Lorey dead and wanted the money that was supposed to go for her care.

"In their own words, they say this is a terrible imposition on our lives," said prosecutor Andrew Slate in closing statements Thursday.

The defense argued the Fenns were struggling to care for a woman with Alzheimer’s and in declining health.

Toby and Kerstin never said they were going to let Elly die," said defense attorney Michael Salnick

Kerstin Fenn and her husband removed Lorey from her home in Austria. For four years, she was with them. Her room was locked from the outside. Testimony revealed she was not given medicine or seen by doctors. She also was given little food and feces covered the room.
