PORT ST. LUCIE, FL - Teachers took time out of their Spring Break to fight the merit-pay plan.
More than 100 people lined the streets of Port St. Lucie Thursday night, while legislators debated House Bill 7189 in Tallahassee.
Jack Babcock and his family even traveled to the capital this week to protest.
The plan would base about half of his salary on how well his students do on standardized tests.
Babcock says he's fighting for his kids' educational future.
"I'm worried about my son," says the sixth grade teacher from Southern Oaks Middle School. "I'm worried about my older son. I'm worried about what education is going to turn into when they're old enough to attend the public schools."
