The Broward County Sheriff's Office says deputies have nabbed a woman suspected of robbing three banks. In fact, detectives began calling her the 'Ma Barker Bandit' because of her short hair, what they call frumpy attire, and her suspected robbery spree of three banks in four days.

In custody is Mary Elizabeth Stapleton, 44, of Pompano Beach.

Investigators say the Bank Atlantic in Deerfield Beach was hit Monday and bank tellers recognized Stapleton from a surveillance photos managers had circulated among tellers.

Astute employees recorded her license tag and claim they saw her throw away a threatening note given to a teller.

Stapleton was stopped a short time later. She faces three counts of strong-arm robbery.
