STUART — A drug deal gone bad landed a woman in the hospital and a suspect behind bars, Stuart police said.

Quincey Brinkley, 24, of the 5800 block of Southeast Colee Street, Stuart, was charged with burglary and armed kidnapping Thursday. Police said the incident happened Aug. 15 when a woman entered Brinkley’s car in the 800 block of North Federal Highway to make a drug deal, police said.

Instead, the woman was assaulted and Brinkley sped away while she was still inside, police said. The woman told police she feared for her life and jumped out of the moving car in the 700 block of Dixie Highway. She had severe injuries to her head and face from the assault, police said.

Brinkley was being held without bail at the Martin County Jail Friday.
