MIAMI (AP) -- Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani has endorsed Marco Rubio in the race for Florida's open Senate seat.
The former Florida house speaker picked up Giuliani's backing in a campaign stop Monday before a standing-room-only crowd of hundreds at a banquet hall in Miami.
Giuliani called Rubio "the one candidate that we can trust to represent Republican principles in Washington."
The endorsement is a snub of Rubio's competitor in the race, Gov. Charlie Crist. Giuliani sought Crist's endorsement when he ran for president in 2008, but Crist instead endorsed the eventual nominee, Sen. John McCain.
