STUART, FL--Deputies are searching for a gunman who terrorized a pawn shop Thursday afternoon, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office said.

Employees of Colorado Bullion Pawn in the 2200 block of South Kanner Highway, Stuart, told authorities the suspect entered the store about 1:30 p.m. and immediately began smashing the front glass display, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Rhonda Irons said.

The suspect threatened to shoot the employees if they activated the alarm, Irons said. However, the employees still managed to hit the alarm and fled to a back room of the store as the suspect left, they told deputies.

Deputies are looking for the suspect, who was described as a 6-foot-tall, 200-pound man who wore a dark, long-sleeved shirt, black pants, white tennis shoes and a brown wig. The employees could not describe what type of gun the suspect had.

The suspect fled in an older model Chrysler LeBaron, but deputies recovered it minutes after the crime, Irons said. The car was abandoned at the Park Square Apartment Complex on Palm City Road in Stuart.

Anyone with information about this crime should call Crime Stoppers at (800) 273-TIPS (8477).
