SUBURBAN BOCA RATON, FL -- Deputies have identified the victim of Thursday night's fatal accident in suburban Boca Raton.
Investigators say Nicholas R. Rozs of Boca Raton was traveling southbound on Military Trail near Champion Way at a "higher rate of speed" when he closed in on a Ford Taurus ahead of him.
When he braked to avoid hitting the Ford driven by Marilyn T. Gordon, he collided with the guard rail for the L38 canal and then struck the rear bumper of the Taurus.
Rozs, in a 1992 Mercedes, flipped onto a pedestrian hand rail for the bridge and landed in the canal.
Both Palm Beach County and Delray Beach dispatched dive teams to the scene. Divers pulled Rozs from the submerged car.
He was transported to Delray Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
