WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A judge has set bond at more than $1 million for the driver suspected of DUI after one person was killed and two were injured in a crash.
Twenty-six-year-old Juan Diego Martinez of Lake Worth is charged with two counts of Vehicular Homicide, one count of driving without a license while causing death, two counts of DUI damaging property, and multiple counts of DUI causing property damage.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says Martinez hit two parked cars and three taxi drivers while they stood in the El Toro Loco nightclub in West Palm Beach early Sunday. He continued to drive, pinning Luis Jimenez and Julio Vazquez under his car.
Bystanders picked up the side of the vehicle to pull the men out, according to the probably cause affidavit from the sheriff's office.
Jimenez died at the scene. Vazquez was taken to JFK Medical Center. A third man, Bernardo Martinez, who was clipped by the vehicle, refused treatment for his injuries.
Three unidentified people who were riding in the car with Martinez ran from the scene.
In his first appearance before a judge, Martinez' bond was set at $500,000 for each count of homicide and $50,000 for each of the other counts, totaling more than $1 million.
Martinez was driving without a license and is in the country without documentation from Mexico. Martinez smelled of alcohol and admitted to being drunk at the scene and also admitted to a habit of smoking marijuana. Toxicology reports are pending.
