McDonald’s popular McRib returned to restaurants across the country Monday, but do you know what it really is?
Business Insider breaks down some facts about the McRib:
1. It’s made up of “restructured meat technology.”
According to Chicago magazine , it includes tripe, heart, and scalded stomach.
2. It has about 70 ingredients, “including a flour-bleaching agent used in yoga mats.”
That flour-bleaching agent is called azodicarbonamide, according to the article.
3. Processing the McRib takes about 45 minutes.
That’s how long it takes to go from fresh pork to flash-freezing it, the report said.
4. It made its first appearance in 1981.
The McRib has come and gone, which created a cult-like following.
