First it was 4 a-m Friday morning, then Midnight on Thanksgiving, then 10 p-m.
Now Black Friday is starting early on Thanksgiving evening at more and more stores. And Macy's may be next.
The website The Consumerist says Macy's stores have been polling employees to see if they would be willing to work on Thanksgiving starting at 7:30 p-m, with doors opening at 8 p-m.
This comes as more and more shoppers do their doorbuster shopping on Thanksgiving night, instead of waiting in the cold for early morning sales.
Many stores move up their times
Last year, in 2012:
- Macy's, Kohl's, and many other stores opened at Midnight for Black Friday. But midnight now feels "late."
-Toys r Us stores and Walmart opened at 8 pm.
-Target opened at 9 p-m, but was the subject of an online petition to push those hours back (it did not do that).
-Sears and Kmart were open all day Thanksgiving, but the sales did not start till 10 p-m.
This year, some of those stores are expected to bump up their opening times even earlier.
So if you were hoping to eat turkey, catch some football, and get some winks...those days are over. Have a cup of coffee instead.
