Best diets: Top weight-loss programs of 2013

CINCINNATI - If your New Year's weight loss resolution has already stalled out, this could help get it going.

U.S. News and World Report released a list of the best overall diets. At the top was the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) developed by the National Institutes of Health.

The key component of it is limiting sodium intake and eating fruits, vegetables and whole grains. One thing that set the DASH diet apart is that it doesn't cut out or extremely restrict certain foods.

The panel weighing the different diets looked for plans that were easy to follow, nutritious and safe. But the diets also needed to help you lose weight and fight diabetes and heart disease.
