Walmart is offering unlimited plans requiring no contract for Apple iPhone 5s for $45 a month through Straight Talk Wireless, the retailer announced Thursday.
The new plan, which is available beginning Friday at 2,000 Walmart stores, will offer unlimited talk, text and data on the popular devices, potentially saving consumers up to $950 a year from current providers, the company said in a release.
International calling can be added to plans for an extra $15 a month.
Consumers can get the service on unlocked Apple smartphones in black and white sold at Walmart. Prices for iPhone 5 are $649 for a 16GB model and $449 for an iPhone4 8GB model. The Bentonville, Ark., retailer will finance the cost of phones for $25 per month with a Walmart credit card.
“We believe customers shouldn’t have to choose between saving money and having the latest technology,” said Seong Ohm, senior vice president of Entertainment for Walmart U.S. “Now customers can have the coveted iPhone with unlimited talk, text and data without a contract for $70 a month thanks to our exclusive Straight Talk plan and industry first financing offer.”
