The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has released its latest round of tests on roof strength. This time, they targeted minicars.
The Smart Fortwo was the only 2009 model year minicar to receive the top score of "Good" in tests that check how vehicles hold up in rollover crashes.
The Honda Fit, Hyundai Accent, Mini Cooper and Toyota Yaris received the second highest mark, "Acceptable."
The Chevy Aveo scored a "Marginal" rating.
New regulations on roof strength were issued in May requiring vehicles to withstand direct pressure of three times the weight of the vehicle. The Institute's tests are even more demanding, requiring vehicles to handle a force four times its weight to receive the top score.
