Ford celebrates launch of the 2012 Ford Focus

WAYNE, Mich. (WXYZ) - Ford is celebrating the launch of the 2012 Ford Focus, its first true global vehicle. Two million of the C-Platform vehicles will eventually be built.

The compact cars get an estimated 40 miles per gallon. Mark Fields, Ford President of the Americas says "The launch of the Focus couldn't come at a better time."

Four thousand workers build the vehicles on two shifts at the Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, Michigan. Depending on Focus sales, a third shift is under consideration.

Michigan Assembly is one of Ford Motor's greenest plants. It is designed with ergonomics in mind. Work stations raise and lower to make it easier for the employees to assemble the cars without getting hurt.

Right now the plant is building four-door and five-door hatchback models. Later this year they will start building the Focus Electric. They will also eventually build the C-Max minivan style vehicle.
