JENSEN BEACH, Fla. - Nearly two weeks after being stabbed more than ten times on the job, Port St. Lucie taxi driver Timothy Bowker's mother says he is making progress. But will he get back behind the wheel? That's still the question.
Lynda Colaiacovo says she is proud of her son, and what he accomplished by starting his own taxi business.
"I'm proud that he could get a business going by himself," Colaiacovo said.
It's a business that she says she never thought would put Bowker in harm's way.
He was an awarded soldier in the Army during Desert Storm.
"I'm just glad that he made it through the Army and made it home," Colaiacovo said. She thought war was the most danger he'd see. "Not driving people around."
Colaiacovo said she heard of Bowker's attack from her daughter. "She told me Timmy got stabbed. It hit hard... I thought he was going to die on us."
She says she lost her other son to an illness in 2010.
Now, Colaiacovo says Bowker is making progress. He's out of trauma, but has a long recovery. He has had numerous surgeries on his face, mouth and head. She says he could also lose sight in one eye.
"Timmy is coming along. His mind is working now. Thank God he has his mind," Colaiacovo said.
She says going back to work is something weighing on his mind. "I think he still wants to do it, but maybe work from home. He's worried, he's very very worried."
