INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. - Health officials in Indian River County are confirming two new cases of pertussis in adults. There haven't been any cases of the disease there in the past three years.
Pertussis -- also known as "whooping cough" --is highly contagious and can be life-threatening in young children. Early symptoms include cough, runny nose, sneezing and a low-grade fever.
Health officials urge you to see a doctor if you've had a cough for three weeks or more, and protect yourself by making sure you and your children are up to date on your immunizations.
