Don't be shocked if you see alligators in places you don't expect.
We're at the peak of alligator mating season.
A University of Florida alligator expert says gators are on the prowl.
While experts say gators aren't as aggressive during mating season, it is best to keep your distance.
"If you are near water stay out in the open, stay away from vegetation if you are going to go swimming in natural bodies of water here in Florida, swim only in areas that are designated for swimming, those are areas where vegetation has been completely cleared away," said Kent Vliet a University of Florida alligator expert.
Seasonal rains can create temporary habitats in newly formed bodies of water for mating gators.
