An animal born at the Chestatee Wildlife Preserve in Dahlonega, Georgia last week has been attracting some attention for its unusual characteristics.

It has its mom's ears and its dad's legs, which is odd because Mom and Dad are from two different species.

The baby is a zedonk, a hybrid between a zebra and a donkey. It has large ears and stripes boldly displayed on its legs, according to an Associated Press article.

The founder and general manager of the preserve, C.W. Wathen, said the foal has a zebra's instincts. Instead of lying on her side to rest, the foal sits up, as if she's staying alert for predators.

Zedonks appear every once in a while, but zebras and donkeys don't usually mate.

Wathen said the foal will be allowed to roam around the property in about two weeks.
