Meryl Streep undergoes hand surgery

MERYL STREEP has undergone surgery on her hand after cutting herself with a kitchen knife in a cookery accident.
The Hollywood actress attended a press event in New York City last week (ends05Aug12) for her new film Hope Springs wearing a large bandage on her left hand.
Streep, who played top chef Julia Child in 2009 movie Julie & Julia, later revealed she sliced open her hand while cutting an avocado and the injury was stitched up by a local doctor in Connecticut before she was referred for surgery in New York.
She tells website Showbiz411.com, "They gave me an even bigger bandage (after the surgery). And of course I took it right off when I got home. But now, I think I'll put it back on."
