The parents of troubled actress Amanda Bynes appeared this morning in Ventura County court, but the case was continued to Aug 9.
Bynes, 27, remains in custody under an involuntary psychiatric hold after an incident Monday in which she apparently started a fire in the driveway of a Thousand Oaks home.
Her parents appeared today before Superior Court Judge Glen M. Reiser in an Oxnard courtroom. The parents reportedly are considering a conservatorship to gain control over Bynes’ basic living decisions, such as money and medical treatment. A judge would have to approve a conservatorship.
Bynes was detained for psychiatric evaluation after she apparently set a gas can on fire Monday night in front of a home in the 200 block of Avenida de los Arboles. No one was injured, and there was no damage.
There was no connection between Bynes and the home, but she apparently has family in the area.
Bynes appeared in a New York court earlier this month for a May incident in which she allegedly threw a marijuana bong out of her Manhattan apartment window. She was charged with reckless endangerment and attempted tampering with physical evidence.
Bynes was born in Thousand Oaks and graduated from Thousand Oaks High School’s independent study program in 2004.
She appeared in her first commercial at age 7, got her series start on TV on Nickelodeon’s sketch comedy show “All That” in 1996 and eventually got her own show on the network.
Her breakout film role was “Big Fat Liar,” and she also starred in “Easy A,” which was filmed in Ojai.
