WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - John Metzger is a cancer survivor. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer three years ago.
"I was diagnosed three years ago and had to have surgery and radiation therapy and hormone therapy."
Now he is embarking on another journey in his life. The attorney says he will participating in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge, to raise the awareness of cancer. Money raised will benefit the University of Miami's Sylvester Cancer Center.
"I don't know if there is a particular event for prostate cancer survivors, We have the Komen Race for the Cure, which our firm is participating in, but that is for breast cancer awareness, so it's a way of helping raise awareness among my friends and people in my life."
John knows the 70 miles he will have to bike from downtown West Palm Beach to Miami will be a challenge.
"I enjoy bike riding as a way to stay healthy so I thought it was a nice combination of the cycling and also I am a huge Miami Dolphins Fan and so I like that as well."
"I think the most important thing that I can say is make sure you are taking your health seriously and early detection is the key with cancer. Getting in regular check-ups, making sure you are taking all of the tests and with prostate cancer many times people think it's a cancer for elderly men, but it's not. It's also a cancer for young men."
