Boynton Beach - Next week Girls on the Run Palm Beach will be up and running. It's an organization that will help palm beach county teens. Volunteer Amanda Roy said: "Girls on the Run is a running based program. We meet twice a week for 12 weeks. We work on not just running and training to run a 5-k over that time, but we also work on teenage girl issues."
There is a fee for the program, which focuses on health and inner beauty. Amanda said she is more than willing to give of her time, "I am very excited about it. I think with not just focusing on the running, the other girl issues I think that it really helps girls to feel more worth for themselves." Girls on the Run is for girls, ages 8 to 13.
Lynn Martin is heading up the Palm Beach County chapter of this national organization. "The locations are going to be West Boynton, Jupiter, West Palm Beach and Boca Raton. Our group starts next Tuesday and we are hoping to get 12 girls at each of the locations." Lynn looks forward to spending time with the girls. "I believe that it's more of a mentoring program. When we start the program we are focusing mostly on the girls the first six lessons, it's learning about who you are and how you relate to your friends. And we are doing a little bit of running. Over that six weeks we gradually build it up so that the last six weeks it becomes more of a running program with less focus on personal development."
