PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - A Treasure Coast chef is hoping to win big in a national food competition, and he needs help with some Facebook “likes.”

Chef Steve Brust’s famous Angus Short Ribs appetizer beat out thousands of other recipes in the U.S. Foods Next Top Product competition.

The Pelican Café chef is now in the top 30, and his dish needs just a few hundred more likes on the Facebook page to take over the top spot.

He says he made up the appetizer a long time ago, and when he first tasted it, he knew he had hit on something special.

“It was inspired by some short ribs that we had left over after a wine dinner, so I took them and cooked them up with some different ingredients, some good beer and some mustard. Kind of threw them into a puff pastry and came out with this appetizer, ” said Brust.
