PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The New York Yankees swatted three home runs to win a pivotal Game 3 by scoring five unanswered runs and rally for an 8-5 win over Philadelphia to take a 2-1 series lead in a game that featured the first reversal of an umpire's call on replay in World Series history.
The Yanks trailed 3-0 before their bats came alive. The game turned on a disputed fourth-inning two-run home run by Alex Rodriguez for his first hit of the World Series. They went ahead with three more in the fifth inning on a run-scoring single by winning pitcher Andy Pettitte and a two-run double by Johnny Damon. Nick Swisher added a solo homer in the sixth and Hideki Matsui (hih-DEK'-ee mat-SOO'-ee) delivered a pinch homer in the eighth.
Rodriguez hit his disputed two-run home run in the top of the fourth. At first, it was ruled a double. But after Joe Girardi appealed, the umpires went to instant replay and it was ruled a home run that hit a TV camera that was set up above the right field wall. It's A-Rod's sixth homer of this postseason, tying Bernie Williams for the Yankee postseason record. It's the first time that instant replay has been used to overturn a call in the postseason since replay has been in use the past two seasons.
Game 4 is Sunday night in Philadelphia. Yankee ace CC Sabathia (suh-BATH'-ee-uh) goes against Joe Blanton.
