No doubt Randy Shannon needed last night's win over Bobby Bowden and Florida State more than Bowden did. For a couple of years now Shannon has been touting his recruiting class from 2008 as the one which would change the culture for Miami and turn them back into the perennial power they once used to be.
We learned a couple of things about Miami last night in their 38-34 win over FSU on Monday night. First, Jacory Harris is a good quarterback who gives Miami a strong presence in the pocket and will finally make people forget, Kirby Freeman, Kyle Wright and Robert Marve. Second, the Canes have playmakers again at the skill positions and will no doubt allow the Canes to score points and compete for the ACC title.
What we saw last night was once again an instant classic, that Bowden even dubbed the third greatest game he's ever coached. Even though each one he has lost. Those are strong words from a man who's coached in as many games as he has.
So here's the the "U". Now they're ranked in the top 20 for the first time since 2006. It's a place they belong anyway.
