FSU tight end Piurowski done for season

Last Update: 10/12 4:40 pm

Florida State tight end Caz Piurowski is out for the rest of the season because of a knee injury suffered in Saturday's game against Georgia Tech.

An MRI exam on Monday revealed torn anterior cruciate (ACL) and medial collateral (MCL) ligaments. Florida State director of sports medicine Randy Oravetz said Piurowski will have surgery in the next week or two.

The senior tight end was injured while blocking on a touchdown run in the first quarter of the Seminoles' 49-44 loss Saturday. Piurowski had caught 13 passes for 182 yards and two scores this season.

"He's played every game since he's been here and is one of our only seniors on offense," FSU head coach Bobby Bowden said. "He was a very important part of our blocking scheme. He's a very skillful, solid receiver at tight end. We will miss him."

Piurowski played in 39 games (24 starts) in his Seminoles career, ending with 33 receptions for 377 yards and three touchdowns.
