WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- The story of the so-called ‘Muck Monster’ posted on Wptv.com has generated parodies on YouTube , a Top Ten List on Late Night with David Letterman, and numerous e-mails and online comments.
In other words the ‘Muck Monster’ has kicked up quite a wake
Greg Reynolds of The Lagoon Keepers, and Don Serrano, were the first to spot something strange under the Lake Worth Lagoon. Reynolds was the one who called it the elusive ‘Muck Monster.’
"The phone keeps ringing, Reynolds says after the story became an Internet sensation.
"It’s showed up on CNN, coast-to-coast radio, 95.5 Wild morning show, K-rock out of Ft. Myers…it’s everywhere," Reynolds said. And the list goes on and on.
"Just do a search on ‘Muck Monster' and it comes up in every corner of the world," Reynolds boasts.
The ‘Muck Monster’ is the most clicked story in Wptv.com’s history. In just one week, it's responsible for almost 7 million page views.
How have Reynolds and Serrano taken all the "monster" attention?
"I’ve got a couple extra phone numbers from girls but it was cause I was walking around with the dog," Serrano says. "It was not a planned explosion by any means," Reynolds chimed in.
It seems you just can’t escape the ‘Muck Monster.’ At the Tiki Bar Sea Grill, there’s a ‘Muck Monster special. "Lightly sautéed 'Muck Monster' served over rice with a caper lemon butter sauce, a little sautéed spinach...it's gonna be wonderful," says Chef Keith Vaughn
And if you want a cocktail, Leah Almony will serve you one up: "It'll be a Muck bow. with melon liquor, sour mix and vodka." Leah will even give you a ‘Muck Monster’ dance if you order it!
Mayor Lois Frankel commented on the sea creature coming to her beautiful city. "What would you expect, the little ‘Muck Monster’ shows up to be part of the action."
The Lagoon Keepers is a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping the Intracoastal waterway in Palm Beach County safe and clean.
