CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA -- More than 100 surfers in South Africa tried to catch a wave and ride it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
These surfers hoped to break the record for the largest number of surfers riding the same wave.
Each rider had to be on the wave for five seconds.
The current record is 100, set in Brazil in 2008.
Douglas, a surfer said "It feels great. I hope the Brazilians don't beat us but at the moment we're the world record holders so no, it was chaos out there but it was to get a chance to be in the Guinness book of records, it's brilliant."
There were around 400 surfers in the water, ready to catch the wave....and when it came....they went for it. some flopped, pearled, and wiped out but over 100 made it up...
Organizers of the record attempt in South Africa initially claimed 120 riders were on one wave, but later looked at photos of the attempt and said 103 were on the wave.
The Guinness Book of World Records still needs to ratify the world record.
The event aimed to raise environmental awareness and conservation.
