This week is National Safe Boating Week

Last Update: 5/18/2009 2:37 pm
The 2009 theme for National Safe Boating Week is "Wear It," aimed at getting boaters to wear their life jackets.  According to U.S. Coast Guard stats, nearly 9 of every 10 boating deaths involved boaters not wearing their life jackets.

To learn more about the program and to have some fun in the process, click this link http://www.safeboatingcampaign.com/.  If your life has been saved by wearing a life jacket, enter the 2009 "Be a Survivor" Contest for a chance to win big bucks, or upload a zany photo of yourself into various life jacket templates.  Also, Kids can test their skills playing a Safe Boating game.

If you are visiting the area and need a life jacket, all of Old Port Cove Holdings marina's have loaner lifejackets as part of Boat U.S.'s lifejacket loaner program.   For a complete list of loaner locations, click here:  http://www.boatus.com/foundation/LJLP/.

Please share your life jacket stories with us on our blog.

Get out and enjoy the water.  Safe boating!
