JUPITER, FL -- "It felt like something grabbed and shook," says Bruce Klinker, describing the moment a shark bit down on his foot.
Klinker and his daughter were surfing near Carlin Park in Jupiter Sunday afternoon.
Klinker will appear live during the 7:30 a.m. portion of NBC's Today Show, Tuesday morning
As he paddled between the first and second break, a shark, likely confusing his foot for bait, came up to get a taste
"I was still on my board and just pulled my foot up, instinctively and looked back to make sure that there was still a foot there and it was so, but I knew I had to get to shore," says Klinker.
He paddled and crawled up to the beach. Klinker is now resting at Jupiter Medical Center after undergoing four hours of surgery to repair the torn tendons in his foot.
Newfield says Klinker should hopefully regain full use of his foot, though the recovery could take months.
It's good news for this long-time surfer who also likes to hike.
Klinker heads home to New Hampshire in a few weeks, with an amazing story to tell his friends.
