Its tucked away right on the Intracoastal and the ocean in Dania Beach.
10 acres, 250 students, 15 faculty comprising FAU's center of excellence in ocean energy technology.
"Its really nice to have extra applications and technologies perfectly visible to work on help develop and contribute to."
In here ideas come to life from concept design, to fabrication to implementation.
Energy labs, ocean labs and machine shops help mold the future of ocean engineering.
"This is probably the best place in the entire planet to harness this ocean energy nowhere isthere an ocean current so near shore so near a load center"
Projects are constantly monitored and reviewed.
From wave induced tanks to models of military craft its all here.
"This is a scale model of a landing craft the navy uses to transport personnel and equipment to shore."
One of the biggest projects on the horizon will be tapping into the oceans' current for energy.
Models to draw that energy have been created and will be tested this summer.
"The current will flow by the generator turbine blade turn gear boxes turn generators producing electricity."
Its one of many prototypes reaching out to uncharted waters reeling in a new mold of the future all while carving out FAU as a leader when it comes to ocean engineering.
"It sets us apart from other engineers and other programs and makes us that much more attractive as employees."
