"Some of my students have become professional aerialists, but most of them do it as a unique form of fitness or just to run away and join the circus for a day."

UNIQUE WAYS TO WORKOUT

A NEW ROUTINE: Has your workout routine gotten a little stale? In addition to learning circus aerial arts at circus schools, there are many other ways to break up the monotony of running on the treadmill or lifting weights. Experts also say mixing up your workout can be one of the best ways to combat a weight-loss plateau. So use these ideas to start zapping calories now! (Calorie estimates are based on a 150 lb person).

• Garden: Every half hour you can burn about 180 calories pulling weeds or planting flowers. To work up even more of a sweat, push a wheelbarrow, dig up trees, or push your lawnmower.

• Dance: Every thirty minutes you shake your booty to fast, hip-hop music, you burn about 200 calories. Next time you're planning a night out, rather than going to the movies and chowing down on popcorn, stop by a dance club. If you're staying in, just put in your iPod headphones and dance around the living room.

• Redecorate: It's the perfect excuse to get rid of that awful flower wallpaper the previous owners loved or to rearrange your furniture to create a perfect Feng Shui environment. Whatever your real reason, you can burn 225 calories and strengthen your muscles after just thirty minutes of pushing chairs, tables, and sofas around.

• Clean: While it might not be the most fun thing to do, cleaning is hard to avoid. So make it worth your while by knowing you're burning 125 calories every half hour you sweep the floors or wipe the windows.

• Shop: Most women will be happy to know that browsing for a new outfit can burn about 100 calories every thirty minutes. To make it an even better workout, skip the cart and carry your shopping bags.

BUT I DON'T WANT TO EXERCISE! Need some more motivation to get moving? According to the Mayo Clinic, exercise can improve your mood; combat chronic diseases like heart disease, osteoporosis and even some types of cancer; help you get a better night's rest; and can even improve your sex life.
