Survey: McCain Support In Ky. Wide-Ranging

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) – Republican John McCain gathered support from a range of Kentuckians Tuesday, tapping some who considered themselves liberals and about half of Democrats who preferred Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton as the nominee.

Democrat Barack Obama, meanwhile, trailed in nearly every category except those voters who considered it most important to have a president they felt could bring change. Obama, who is trying to become the country's first black president, also did well in Louisville, the state's largest city.

The results are based on a preliminary partial sample of 1,442 voters in an Election Day exit poll conducted for AP by Edison Media Research and Mitofsky International in a random sample of 25 precincts statewide. Results were subject to sampling error of plus or minus 4 percentage points, higher for subgroups.
