Web produced by: Kerry DukeDelaware Sen. Joe Biden will be Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s running mate.
Obama, who’ll be nominated as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate at next week’s national convention in Denver, made the announcement early Saturday morning.
The 66-year-old Biden was one of the earliest dropouts from the Democratic primary in 2008. He is known for his foreign policy credentials.
Biden’s name had topped the lists of vice presidential candidates under consideration by the Illinois senator to round out the ticket.
Obama told reporters Thursday that he had chosen his running mate but declined to say who he had chosen.
Other names that were prominently mentioned included Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh.
With the ticket complete, Obama and Biden were scheduled to campaign on Saturday in Springfield, Ill.
