Jury to reconvene in Panhandle murder trial

Last Update: 11/07/2009 4:56 pm
CHADRON, Neb. (AP) -- Jurors will continue deliberations Monday in the trial of Joseph Hotz, who's accused of stabbing his roommate to death.

The Dawes County District Court jury got the case Friday afternoon and deliberated for 5 1/2 hours before being dismissed for the weekend.

Hotz faces charges of first-degree murder, weapons, attempted robbery and terroristic threats.Authorities say Hotz stabbed 22-year-old Kenneth Pfeiffer of Sebastian, Fla., to death in December 2008. An autopsy showed Pfeiffer had been stabbed more than 50 times.

Hotz's attorneys say hallucinogenic mushrooms had left him delusional, thinking Pfeiffer was part of a plot to kill him.
