ROANOKE, VA -- A Tampa couple is believed to be among the victims of a single-engine plane crash.
Dan Dorsch and his wife Cindie were scheduled to fly back to Tampa after spending the holiday weekend in New York.
FAA spokesman Jim Peters says a panel peeled off the plane, a Pilatus PC-12, and that the pilot had plannedon landing in Lynchburg, Va. The plane was destroyed when it tumbled into a farm located near Roanoke and owned by Virginia Tech. The crash site has a debris field 100 yards long.
The plane is registered to a company owned by Dorsch, who is the former chief executive officer of Checkers Drive-In Restaurants, Inc.
FAA spokesman Peters says it was too soon to confirm if Dorsch and his wife were, in fact, aboard that plane until an autopsy is done on the remains found at the crash site. It is also unclear if other people may have been on the plane at the time of the crash.
