TAMPA, FL -- A Hillsborough County Detention Deputy was nearly killed in a jail house attack that was caught on tape. Deputy Ken Moon was the only guard in a pod at the Orient Road Jail with 62 inmates Monday afternoon when the attack occurred.

Video of the incident shows inmate Douglas Burden charging the deputy and putting him in a strangle hold. All of a sudden, the video shows a second inmate enter the picture, slamming the attacker and the deputy to the ground.

The rescuer then tried to pull Burden's arms off the injured deputy. He needed help from several other inmates to free the deputy.

Another inmate used the deputy's radio to call for help, screaming "Emergency! Emergency! Emergency," into the microphone.

Jail Commander Jim Previtera said "I am certain he would have been killed if the inmates hadn't come to help."

In all more than a half dozen inmates pulled Burden off the deputy and held him until deputies arrived to restore order. Burden has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.

Deputy Moon was treated at University Community Hospital and released. He is expected to recover.
