ST. LUCIE COUNTY, FL –- The St. Lucie County Health Department’s first vaccination station will be this Saturday, October 24, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or until vaccine supplies are exhausted) at the St. Lucie County Logistics Center, located at 3855 S. U.S. 1 in Fort Pierce approximately 1.2 miles north of Midway Road.
A second vaccination station will be held Saturday, November 7 at the same location and time.
“These are the first vaccination stations – there will be several more in the future,” said Larry Lee, St. Lucie County Health Department Administrator. “Because of limited supplies, right now we are only targeting people who fall within one of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), priority groups.”
The priority groups, as identified by the CDC, and is at highest risk for severe complications from H1N1 are:
- People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age
- People from 6 months to 24 years of age
- Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
- People 25 to 64 years old who are at higher risk for novel H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems
The St. Lucie County Health Department is asking that those not in a priority group (for example, people over 65 years of age) allow time for the priority groups to be reached first before seeking a H1N1 vaccination.
Initial H1N1 vaccine shipments began arriving in St. Lucie County last week. In addition to the St. Lucie County Health Department, healthcare providers such as pediatricians, OB/GYN doctors, walk-in and urgent care clinics are receiving vaccine.
