Schools help students cope with cold

Last Update: 1/06 5:45 am
STUART, FL -- Treasure Coast school officials are easing up on strict dress codes, to make sure students come to school properly dressed during this record-setting cold snap.

According to our news partners at Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, schools in Martin and St. Lucie counties which don't normally allow students to come to school in jeans are allowing those pants if parents do not have pants that follow the normal dress code guidelines.

Part of the problem is that some local retailers are out-of-stock in certain sizes of pants that would meet code requirements.

School officials will monitor the weather and alert students and parents when conditions change, and strict dress code rules will be fully enforced.
