PORT ST. LUCIE, FL — A 22-year-old Stuart man was arrested on a felony charge Saturday after he shot a female deer on another person’s land, according to an affidavit released Monday.

Kyle Douglas Bateman, of the 3000 block of Southeast Aster Lane, faces a felony trespass by projectile to take wildlife charge after state investigators contacted him in the 9300 block of Carlton Road. Bateman didn’t have permission to be on the land, but the apparent owner said he didn’t want to press charges.

Bateman showed investigators where he’d shot the doe in his possession, but there wasn’t any “evidence of a deer being shot there.”

Investigators found a spot where a deer was dragged under a fence and noticed some blood.

The investigators then called the apparent owner of the land where the deer had been killed, and that man said he wanted to press charges.

Bateman was arrested and taken to the St. Lucie County jail.
