PORT ST. LUCIE, FL -Reyna Zurita knew her dog Hunter loved kids.
It said as much in the letter his previous owners sent along when she adopted the hound a few weeks ago.
But Zurita had no idea how much Hunter loved children until she came home from the gym last week.
Hunter was at the door, barking and frantic. She let him out and he took off.
"This is the first time he's run away from my house and I follow him, like two or three blocks down, he went over there," said Zurita, who pointed to a row of houses hundreds of yards away. "A lady was screaming, horrible asking for help."
Hunter stopped and sat next to the lifeless body of 1-year old Manuel Domingo.
The child's guardian had been giving him a bath when she went to search for shampoo.
Julia Pasqual turned around to find Manuel under the water and not breathing.
Pasqual didn't have a phone to call for help.
"Ran out with him, he was butt naked and we started banging all these doors," she said. "Nothing. And I was screaming like crazy."
And then Hunter came bounding up, being chased by Zurita.
Zurita didn't know CPR but she tried it anyway.
"Mom instinct," said Zurita. "I get the baby. Give it CPR. Then the baby vomit water and then the baby's alive."
Manual spent a few nights in the hospital but will make a full recovery.
Hunter is about five years old. His previous owner says he could sense when someone is sick or hurt.
