Swimmer swept out to sea identified

FORT PIERCE INLET, FL--The swimmer who died after he was swept out of the Fort Pierce Inlet Tuesday afternoon has been identified.

Fort Pierce Police say 32 year old Lataurus Conley, was boating near the inlet around 1 p.m. He and friends decided to go for a swim when an outgoing tide swept Conley into the channel, police said.

A fisherman saw what happened and tried to rescue Conley.

He was taken to shore at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park. Rescue crews arrived and performed CPR. Conley was then transported to Lawnwood Medical Center in Fort Pierce, where he later died.

An investigation into his death continues.
