FORT PIERCE, FL--Authorities acting on a tip from a concerned neighbor say they caught up with a Fort Pierce man who made off with over $200 dollars in frozen food, bathroom tissue, candy bars, batteries, tea and gift wrap from a dollar store.
According to a report released by Fort Pierce Police, police were tipped off to the stolen goods after Thomas Gaydos approached his neighbors asking if they wanted to buy several boxes of stolen frozen foods from Dollar Tree. Investigators met with a woman who wished to remain anonymous about Gaydos approaching her to buy stolen goods.
Police say they then knocked on Gaydos's residence and met with two women inside who told officers that Gaydos was hiding in the attic and was "not going to give up."
Police made several requests for Gaydos to come down but were forced to pull him down from the attic after he refused requests.
Police say they recovered boxes of frozen goods, batteries, candy bars, puzzles, gift wrap and tea along with a stolen shotgun. The perishables were returned to the store and the dry goods were placed into evidence.
According to police, surveillance video from the Dollar Tree showed Gaydos entering through an open side entrance and lifting several boxes from the store. He will be charged with burglary, first degree larceny of property and grand larceny of a firearm.
