BOCA RATON, FL -- A holiday horror scene unfolded as dozens of dogs on the verge of death were rescued by the Tri-County Humane Society of Boca Raton.
"My heart was breaking, I was absolutely heartbroken to think that a human being could do this to another living thing," says Susan Richards of the Tri County Humane Society.
31 extra dogs now reside in this overrun shelter, plucked from horrid conditions around South Florida and taken in by a rescue group first in Clewiston. Where they orginally came from remains under investigation. How they came to Tri-County is unimaginable. Some were so matted and unkempt that their breed is unrecognizable.
"The dogs were in squalor, they were in their own feces in very small areas," says Richards.
Nearly 50 small breeds were found ranging from Chihuahuas to a Husky with 3 pups. Only 31 were able to find space in Tri-County due to over capacity after spending time with a resuce group in Clewiston.
"It's the holidays you got to give back, these dogs deserve a good home and they deserve to be loved and taken care of," says Richards.
