PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL -- Jessica Perfetto is in her senior year. Like many of her classmates, her goal is to earn her  diploma. But she also spends time helping children battling cancer.

Since she was seven years old, she started donating hair to Locks of Love. "I just decided to do it and I cut off about 12 inches the first time and then since then it's been a cycle, I grow it and then as soon as it is long enough I cut it so it takes about two or three years."

Jessica found out that Locks of Love uses donated hair to make wigs for sick children. Through the years she got her friends to do the same.

"Locks of Love has always been something that is a part of me for so long so I decided why don't I do a Cut-A-Thon so I organized that two years ago but I kind of stayed within my comfort zone so I asked my friends to donate, so that was the majority of donors," she said.

This Sunday, Jessica has organized a Cut-A-Thon at Balance Salon in Delray Beach for the public to participate in.

"I have contacted 20 schools and all of the PTAs in the area and I have actually gotten great response from a lot of them. I have talked to about 90 businesses. I walked down Atlantic Avenue one day and I hit every store in there and some response from some of them," Jessica said.

She's hoping in the future to become a pediatrician but right now she's making a difference. "It's not like I am donating money, my hair is a part of someone so it's such a great feeling."
