Alzheimer's victim hit and killed in Delray Beach

SUBURBAN DELRAY BEACH, FL -- The man struck and killed Tuesday evening by a vehicle at the intersection of Via Del Ray and Military Trail has been identified.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says 86-year-old Charles Meyer had suffered from Alzheimer's and had been missing about an hour when the accident happened.

Meyer was pronounced deceased on scene according to Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue.

Investigators say Meyer was trying to cross the intersection at Via Del Ray and Military Trail when he walked into the path of an oncoming sedan headed northbound, that had the green light.

The driver of the car stopped for the accident investigation.
