BOCA RATON, FL -- Friedel Salberg squeals as she opens the door to her Boca Raton home.
"Oh my God! Oh my God!" she yells.
Her home in the Whisper Walk community is infested with rats.
She found the mess they left behind when she returned from a 3 month trip to New York.
"They tore everything up; this is all their feces," she points out.
The rats' droppings cover the floors and the rodents chewed a hole through part of the washing machine as well as through most of her clothes.
An exterminator says there are thousands more droppings in the attic and believes they're coming in through the roof.
Trapper Jim Buckley says he sees infestations everyday but never like this.
"It is one of the worst cases I've seen," he explains.
Buckley is doing what he can to control the problem downstairs, yet taking care of the attic and roof is up to the condo association.
Salberg is angry because she reported the problem to the association Friday afternoon and no one showed up until Monday afternoon.
An association spokesperson explains they had to wait until the next business day.
While they say their exterminator is now working as fast as he can to get rid of the 81 year old's furry house guests, she is trying to find somewhere else to temporarily call home.
"Right now I feel homeless," Salberg says.
