BOCA RATON, FL -- Consider it a home run for FAU softball.

The Florida Atlantic University's softball team was recently named Palm Beach County's 'Volunteer Group of the Year' by the Special Olympics.

The team will receive the award at the Special Olympics of Palm Beach County's annual appreciation banquet on Saturday, November 14 in Lake Worth.

According to FAU, the softball team has volunteered at several Special Olympics events throughout the year, including the organization's annual prom, bowling and softball tournaments.

"Community service is something we really stress as a team and it's great to see that service recognized," says head softball coach Joan Joyce.

The banquet will be held at the Special Olympics of Palm Beach County headquarters at 2728 Lake Worth Road.
