PARKLAND - Authorities have arrested a Boca Raton man accused of shoving a store's elderly greeter to the ground while trying to steal some computers.
A tipster led authorities to aBoca Raton man accused of shoving and injuring a store's elderly greeter while shoplifting two laptops, authorities said.
Zachary Prince, 25, was arrested Tuesday night in Boca Raton on robbery and drug posession charges, officials said. He's being held at the Broward Main Jail without bond.
Officials said Prince shoved Bernard Sobol, 83, a greeter at the BJ's Wholesale in Parkland on Oct 30. Sobol had noticed Prince was trying to steal two laptops and ran after him, forcing the would-be shoplifter to drop the goods, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. The fall broke one of Sobol's ribs.
During an interview with detectives, Prince confessed to the assault and attempted robbery but said he never meant to hurt Sobol, the Sheriff's Office said.
A customer at a business near the BJ's recognized Prince from a Crime Stoppers flyer and reported him to authorities, according to the Sheriff's Office.
